Verduzzo Venezia Giulia
Crafted from Verduzzo, one of Friuli’s most distinctive native grape varieties, this expressive white wine highlights the grape’s unique combination of richness, structure, and longevity. The vineyard sits atop a south-facing hillside at 200 meters above sea level, where clay and sandstone soils provide ideal conditions for producing concentrated, characterful fruit. The 80- to 100-year-old Guyot-trained vines are hand-harvested with careful selection in late September to ensure optimal ripeness.
The grapes are whole-bunch pressed to preserve purity and elegance before fermenting for 30 days in 1,500-litre Slavonian and French oak casks. The wine then remains in the same barrels, ageing on its lees for 12 months, gaining additional complexity, texture, and harmony through gentle natural micro-oxygenation.
The nose reveals ripe stone and orchard fruits layered with delicate honeyed notes, while the palate is full-bodied and beautifully structured. Verduzzo’s naturally high tannin content—unusual for a white grape—is carefully managed through gentle pressing, resulting in a wine with remarkable body, persistence, and balance rather than bitterness. This unique characteristic has earned Verduzzo the nickname “a black grape dressed in white,” reflecting its red wine-like texture beneath its golden appearance.
Naturally high sugar levels in the grapes contribute to a generous alcohol profile, while barrel fermentation and ageing integrate the wine’s fruit, tannins, and freshness into a seamless whole. Rich, textured, and capable of extended cellaring, this is a white wine of exceptional personality that pairs beautifully with flavourful dishes such as roasted poultry, creamy mushroom dishes, aged cheeses, and richly seasoned seafood.
